Netanyahu Refuses to Meet with Lapid
Prime Minister Netanyahu refused an in-person security briefing with opposition leader Yair Lapid, citing recent meetings and directing his military secretary.
Jerusalem, 29 September, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Opposition leader MK Yair Lapid on Tuesday requested an urgent security briefing from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu following Netanyahu’s warning that Israel’s enemies may attempt to attack ahead of the elections. Lapid said he wanted to know whether the threats were real and, if so, how the government was preparing to ensure the elections proceed without disruption.
Netanyahu’s office responded that the prime minister had instructed his military secretary to brief Lapid on the latest developments, rather than meeting with him personally. The office said Netanyahu regularly holds security briefings with Lapid and that their most recent meeting took place on September 14.
Lapid’s request followed Netanyahu’s remarks at the Tel Nof Air Force Base, where he said there were indications that Israel’s enemies would try to attack before the election. Netanyahu warned that Israel’s “long arm” would reach its enemies “anywhere and anytime.”
