Jewish Party Petitions to Disqualify Muslim Party from Elections
Israel's Noam Party seeks to disqualify the Ra'am Party from the 26th Knesset elections over chairman Mansour Abbas's comments on Israel as a Jewish state.
Jerusalem, 26 August, 2026 (TPS-IL) — The Orthodox Jewish Noam Party on Wednesday asked the Central Elections Committee to disqualify the Islamist Ra’am Party from running in the 26th Knesset elections.
The request followed remarks by Ra’am chairman MK Mansour Abbas, who said the party had been “forced to accept” Israel as a Jewish state to avoid being barred from the elections.
Noam chairman MK Avi Maoz accused Abbas of revealing his “true colors.”
“Anyone who does not accept Israel as the nation-state of the Jewish people cannot run for the Knesset. Abbas can go to any other Arab country and try to run there,” Maoz said.
