Politics

Jerusalem, 6 September, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Israel’s government announced a new outline transferring approximately 100 million shekels ($29.4 million) directly to sheep and goat dairy farmers over the next four years, alongside permanent annual support of over 20 million shekels ($5.9 million) starting in 2031.

Under the framework, customs duties on sheep and goat cheeses will be eliminated and the market opened to competition, expected to save consumers approximately 60 million shekels ($17.6 million) annually while strengthening domestic production and food security.

The outline also includes additional support of up to 20% for farms in Israel’s periphery, aimed at strengthening agriculture and maintaining dispersed production nationwide, along with a transition mechanism limiting the number of growers in the industry during the initial years to ensure stability while adapting to the new model.
