Israel Clears Path to Close and Replace Tel Avivs Central Bus Station with New Transit Hub
Israel's Knesset committee has approved rezoning land for a temporary bus terminal, accelerating the closure of Tel Aviv's Central Bus Station.
Jerusalem, 8 September, 2026 (TPS-IL) — A Knesset joint committee has approved rezoning land at the Mikveh Israel Agricultural School, near Holon Junction, clearing a key regulatory hurdle for a temporary bus terminal expected to accelerate the closure of Tel Aviv’s aging Central Bus Station.
The interim facility, spanning 134 dunams (about 33 acres), will absorb roughly 60% of bus traffic currently routed through The Central station until a permanent hub is built nearby at the Ben Zvi site in Holon.
The site will include overnight bus parking and charging infrastructure to support electrification of the bus fleet, along with environmental safeguards to prevent soil and air contamination.
The rezoning followed a review of alternative locations aimed at minimizing disruption to the agricultural school’s operations.
