Jerusalem, 26 August, 2026 (TPS-IL) — The Construction and Housing Ministry completed the transfer of responsibility for housing clusters from the Immigration and Absorption Ministry this week, in an inter-ministerial move designed to centralize senior citizen housing under one professional body.

As part of the transfer, the Housing Ministry took over 73 housing clusters comprising approximately 10,000 housing units and housing roughly 11,000 residents nationwide. Having previously managed about 125 senior citizen homes, the ministry now manages 198 such homes across the country following the completion of the process.

Officials said the move concentrates the housing sector for independent senior citizens under the ministry while relying on accumulated professional experience in the field.

The transfer was carried out in full coordination between the Construction and Housing Ministry, the Immigration and Absorption Ministry, and Amidar, aiming to ensure an orderly transition without disrupting service to tenants.
