Former Shin Bet Chief to Sue Netanyahu for Defamation
Former Shin Bet Chief Ronen Bar is suing Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for defamation, alleging false claims about his actions before and during the October.
Jerusalem, 28 September, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Former Shin Bet Chief Ronen Bar announced Monday that he will file a defamation lawsuit against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, accusing him of making false claims about Bar’s conduct before and during the October 7, 2023, Hamas attack.
Bar said he initially intended to wait for a state commission of inquiry before responding. He now says Netanyahu’s recent statements and selected documents have distorted the facts and damaged his reputation.
Bar’s attorneys will seek access to Netanyahu’s schedule, security protocols, and warnings received before the attack. They intend to summon members of the prime minister’s staff and aides to testify.
Netanyahu has accused Bar of failing to alert him about warning signs before the massacre and rejected claims that he received advance notices from Egypt.
The dispute over responsibility for October 7 has intensified ahead of the October 27 election.
