Ben Gvir Wants Defense, Gotliv Justice in Next Netanyahu Government
Itamar Ben Gvir's Otzma Yehudit party will demand Defense and Justice ministries, proposing significant policy changes for Gaza and Israel's judicial system.
Jerusalem, 22 September, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Otzma Yehudit chairman Itamar Ben Gvir says his party will demand two senior portfolios in the next government: the Defense Ministry for himself and the Justice Ministry for MK Tali Gotliv.
Ben Gvir made the announcement Tuesday, presenting his party’s proposed policies for the two ministries. His defense plan calls for encouraging voluntary emigration from Gaza and Judea and Samaria, disarming the Palestinian Authority, detaining senior terror supporters, changing rules of engagement, and giving soldiers full backing.
He also proposes higher military salaries, free land for discharged combat soldiers, changes to the military’s ethical code, and opening elite units, including Unit 8200, to the entire population.
Gotliv’s justice agenda includes immediately firing the attorney general, changing the process for appointing Supreme Court justices, restricting judicial review, and imposing tougher penalties for terror and organized crime.
