Israeli Military Eliminates Hamas Commander Who Held Israelis Hostage in Gaza Tunnel
The IDF eliminated Hamas commander Ismail Mohammed Ibrahim Barim in Khan Younis, responsible for holding Israeli hostages Edan Alexander, Matan Zangauker.
Jerusalem, 27 August, 2026 (TPS-IL) — The IDF (Israel Defense Forces) struck and eliminated Ismail Mohammed Ibrahim Barim, a Hamas commander, in the Khan Younis area on Wednesday.
The military said Barim had held hostages Edan Alexander, Matan Zangauker, and Avera Mengistu in a tunnel in southern Gaza.
The IDF said the terrorist had recently been advancing attacks against IDF troops and Israeli civilians and was attempting to help rehabilitate Hamas’s capabilities, in systematic violation of the ceasefire. The strike was carried out to remove the threat.
