IDF Taps Expert Panel to Probe Deadly Gaza Drone Explosion
The IDF has formed an expert panel to investigate a fatal drone explosion in northern Gaza that killed two reservists, examining potential Hamas EW or Israeli.
Jerusalem, 25 September, 2026 (TPS-IL) — The IDF has appointed an expert panel to investigate the Gaza drone explosion that killed two reservists at an outpost in northern Gaza.
Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir ordered the inquiry, headed by a brigadier general from the Ground Forces, following the deaths of Staff Sgt. (res.) Nadav Kli and Staff Sgt. (res.) Ofek Mualem.
The soldiers, serving with the 16th Brigade under the 99th Division, were operating two explosive drones when the second crashed inside the outpost immediately after takeoff. They approached the wreckage to inspect it when it exploded.
The IDF is examining whether Hamas electronic warfare caused the crash or whether the drone was brought down by Israeli jamming.
The military has suspended operational attack-drone activity across all combat zones pending the investigation.
