Bus Catches Fire at Army Base, Ammunition Ignites
An IDF bus caught fire and ammunition ignited at Mishmar HaNegev base, but soldiers evacuated safely before the blaze spread to dry vegetation.
Jerusalem, 4 October, 2026 (TPS-IL) — An IDF bus caught fire Sunday at the Mishmar HaNegev military base in southern Israel, triggering secondary explosions as ammunition at the site ignited.
Initial reports said the fire may have started after a gas canister inside the bus exploded, although the IDF later said a technical malfunction was the likely cause and that the incident is being investigated.
The bus had been carrying Givati reconnaissance troops preparing to leave for an exercise when a soldier smelled gas. The soldiers evacuated the bus before it caught fire, preventing injuries.
Firefighters brought the blaze under control after it spread to nearby vehicles and dry vegetation. The IDF said the fire caused light property damage and no injuries.
