Jerusalem, 1 September, 2026 (TPS-IL) — The Health Ministry, the Agriculture and Food Security Ministry, and the Wine Grapes Board will launch Israel’s official wine region map on Sunday, September 6, establishing a unified framework for designating geographic growing regions on wine labels.
The map, developed through analysis of Israel’s climate, soil and topography alongside professional deliberations and public feedback, defines eight macro-regions and sub-regions, creating a standardized geographical language for wineries and vineyards.
Indicating a growing region on a label will remain voluntary, but wines that do so must have at least 85% of their grapes harvested within the designated area, aligning Israel with international standards seen in regions like Champagne and Bordeaux in France or Mosel in Germany.
Officials said the framework ensures a regional label reflects a verified, controlled source rather than a marketing designation.
