Jerusalem, 15 October, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Israel plans to increase its medical workforce by more than 16,000 doctors by 2035, with the number of specialists expected to grow even faster, according to Health Ministry projections released Thursday.

The ministry forecasts that the country will have approximately 53,000 doctors within a decade, up from 37,000 today. The number of specialists is projected to reach 32,000, compared with roughly 20,000 currently.

The new targets mark the ministry’s first national workforce plan extending through 2035. The initiative aims to address regional staffing imbalances.
