Health Ministry: 5,565 New Breast Cancer Cases Diagnosed in Israel in 2023
Israel's Health Ministry reported 5,565 new breast cancer cases in 2023, with survival rates reaching 92% for Jewish women and 87% for Arab women.
Jerusalem, 29 September, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Israel recorded 5,565 new breast cancer cases in 2023, according to data released by the Health Ministry ahead of Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October 2016. Of these cases, 4,858, or 87%, were invasive cancers, while 707 were localized tumors.
Breast cancer remains the most common cancer among Israeli women, accounting for about one-third of new cancer cases among women. Despite relatively high incidence, Israel has a comparatively low mortality rate, ranking 33rd among 186 countries for incidence but 125th for mortality.
The ministry said earlier diagnosis and advances in treatment have contributed to improved survival. Five-year relative survival reached 92% among Jewish and other women diagnosed between 2012 and 2019, and 87% among Arab women.
In 2023, 999 Israeli women died from breast cancer. The ministry recommends mammography every two years for average-risk women ages 50–74.
