Jerusalem, 9 September, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Israel’s Tax Authority reported that vehicle imports rose sharply in August 2026, with private car imports climbing 51% year-on-year to 27,755 vehicles and commercial vehicle imports rising 67.4% to 1,280.
Officials attributed the increase largely to a low dollar exchange rate, along with unusually low import levels in August 2025.
For January–August 2026, total vehicle imports reached 201,674, up 47.5% from 136,702 during the same period last year. The Tax Authority said the comparison was skewed by a surge in vehicle imports in December 2024, ahead of a purchase tax hike on electric vehicles and updated green taxation rules that took effect in January 2025.
