Jerusalem, 6 September, 2026 (TPS-IL) — COGAT (Coordination of Government Activities in the Territories: Judea and Samaria and towards the Gaza Strip) reported that market prices in Gaza have declined approximately 83% as of the end of August, up from a previously reported 74% decrease, covering food and other market items, based on information gathered from the ground.
COGAT said the continued price decline, Despite Hamas’s taxation of merchants, is clear evidence that “Gaza is flooded with food,” reinforcing evidence presented last week showing Hamas destroying food and leaving food parcels uncollected.
Since the start of the ceasefire, more than 2.2 million tons of food have entered Gaza, enabling the opening of dozens of community kitchens and bakeries, a wider variety of food in markets, and the steady drop in prices, COGAT said.
