Israel Warns Citizens to Stay Out of Ethiopias War-Torn Tigray Region
Israel's Foreign Ministry warns citizens against travel to Ethiopia's Tigray region amid renewed clashes and worsening security conditions.
Jerusalem, 25 September, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Israel’s Foreign Ministry on Friday advised Israeli citizens to avoid all travel to Ethiopia’s Tigray region until further notice amid renewed armed clashes and worsening security conditions in northern Ethiopia.
Ethiopian Airlines has suspended flights to and from airports in Mekelle, Axum and Shire, with no date announced for their resumption.
Israelis currently in Tigray are urged to exercise extreme caution, limit nonessential movement, avoid gatherings, demonstrations, military facilities and areas of friction, and remain in safe locations whenever possible.
The Foreign Ministry warned that rapidly changing conditions could lead to road closures, communications disruptions, and changes in transportation and exit options. Israelis are advised not to travel between cities or attempt to leave the region independently without first confirming that their route and destination are safe.
Travelers should also remain in contact with their airline and monitor updates on flights.
