Jerusalem, 20 October, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Israeli President Isaac Herzog met with Hungarian President András Baka in Budapest on Tuesday, praising Hungary’s support for Israel and its commitment to combating antisemitism as the two countries seek to deepen bilateral ties.
“Hungary has been a friend and an ally on this long and difficult path,” Herzog said, citing Budapest’s role in promoting constructive relations between Israel and the European Union. He added that bilateral cooperation in technology and the economy had expanded over the past year.
He thanked Hungary for its “clear and unequivocal policy of zero tolerance for antisemitism” and its efforts to protect Jewish communities, while acknowledging the destruction of Hungarian Jewry during the Holocaust.
During their meeting at Sandor Palace, Baka said Hungary remained committed to protecting Jewish life and described Israel as “an important economic partner.”
A key part of Herzog’s 12-hour visit will be his address to the international Voice of the People (VoP) conference, part of the president’s global initiative to bring together Jewish leaders and young people from Israel and the Diaspora to discuss challenges facing the Jewish people.
Herzog will conclude his visit with a meeting with Hungarian Jewish community leaders.
