Jerusalem, 6 October, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Umm al-Fahm — Israel Police and the Nature and Parks Authority dismantled an illegal wildlife trafficking operation, arresting two suspects accused of hunting, smuggling, and trading thousands of protected birds nationwide.

The arrests followed a joint covert investigation targeting illicit wildlife trade in northern Israel and the West Bank. During residential searches in the northern Arab towns Umm al-Fahm and Anin, enforcement officers seized specialized trapping equipment alongside hundreds of frozen blackcap warblers, a protected migratory songbird species whose capture and consumption are strictly banned under national environmental protection laws.

Environmental officials warned that illegal trapping poses a severe threat to regional avian biodiversity, confirming that both suspects remain in custody pending formal charges.
