Jerusalem, 20 October, 2026 (TPS-IL) — The Louis D. Brandeis Center for Human Rights Under Law has filed a complaint with the U.S. Department of Education alleging that Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) failed to protect a Jewish student from antisemitic harassment, threats, and ostracism.
The student, who attended Montgomery, Maryland, Blair High School, was allegedly targeted for his Zionist views, told to “go back to 1935,” and subjected to demands that classmates shun him.
He also received a phone call threatening to bomb him, followed by fireworks outside his home. Earlier, at another district school, teammates allegedly told him to “pick it up, Jew,” while students made Hitler salutes.
The Brandeis Center says repeated reports failed to produce adequate protection, leaving the student afraid and reducing his attendance. It seeks a federal investigation, stronger district policies, mandatory staff training, and independent monitoring to address antisemitic harassment.
