Jerusalem, 2 October, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Rami Azran, described by Israeli authorities as a senior figure in organized crime, is set to be released from prison after serving 17 years behind bars.

Azran was convicted of extortion, conspiracy to commit murder, running an illegal gambling racket, money laundering, and tax offenses.

His return to civilian life is expected to draw close attention from law enforcement officials concerned about possible renewed activity by organized-crime groups.

Rami Azran is married to Maayan, who has served as his legal and public advocate, repeatedly challenging the Israel Prison Service (IPS) over his family visitation and communication rights. The couple has three daughters, and because Azran spent extended periods in solitary confinement, his family frequently turned to the courts to secure visits.

In 2019, a district court ruled that the IPS must allow Azran daily telephone contact with his daughters.
