Following the discovery of the tunnel, Border Police fighters from the Jerusalem Envelope division operated in a focused operational and intelligence activity to arrest a suspect, who was found in possession of digging tools. An examination of the tunnel revealed it was in an advanced stage of excavation. As part of the operation, an archaeological survey of the tunnel and the area was conducted, which revealed that the tunnel entrance was concealed within an ancient water cistern, which was used to hide the excavation activity. Yesterday, Border Police fighters from the northern Battalion of the Jerusalem Envelope, in cooperation with IDF forces, completed the sealing of the tunnel.
