Jerusalem, 27 August, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Mohammed Dahlan, former head of the Palestinian Authority’s Preventive Security Service in Gaza and leader of Fatah’s reformist camp, is reportedly working to build a political alliance with Hamas, Palestinian Islamic Jihad and other Palestinian factions.
His goal is to create a united bloc against PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas ahead of parliamentary elections.
After two decades without general elections, Abbas issued a decree on July 9 setting November 28 as the date for elections to the Palestinian Legislative Council in the PA, Gaza and eastern Jerusalem.
Hamas is leading talks on a joint list or broad coalition including Dahlan’s camp, Islamic Jihad and other factions.
The alliance aims to challenge Abbas, weaken Fatah’s current leadership and offer an alternative government, particularly in Gaza, for the day after Israel’s withdrawal.
Dahlan, based in the UAE, could use his international ties and financial resources to regain political influence.
