Jerusalem, 2 July, 2026 (TPS-IL) — On 28.06.26, a decision was made by the Director General of the Population and Immigration Authority regarding the application of the expedited procedure established in the procedure for handling asylum seekers in the framework of examining asylum applications from Sri Lankan citizens, subject to exceptions.
This is in accordance with a professional opinion received on behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which indicated that, in general, Sri Lanka can be considered a “safe country of origin” for the purpose of examining asylum applications in a fast-track procedure.
It is clarified that this decision will enter into force as of 05.07.26.
