Jerusalem, 10 September, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Israel’s Prison Service promoted 57 senior officers in a ceremony attended by National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir and Prison Service Commissioner Lt. Gen. Kobi Yaakobi, as part of an effort to reinforce the agency’s command structure.

Ben Gvir said the changes he has led within the Prison Service represent “a game-changer in deterrence and the fight against terrorism,” crediting officers and wardens for implementing the policy.

Yaakobi urged incoming leadership to approach challenges “with open and critical eyes,” saying the work ahead “is exponentially harder” as the agency matures.

The ceremony comes amid Ben Gvir’s broader push to overhaul prison policy toward higher-security and tougher treatment of Palestinian security detainees.
