High Court Freezes Transfer of $133 Million to Haredim and Settlers
Israel's High Court has frozen $133 million in coalition funds designated for Haredi education and settlement ministries, pending an explanation.
Jerusalem, 24 August, 2026 (TPS-IL) — High Court of Justice Justices David Mintz, Khaled Kabub and Ruth Ronen on Monday night issued a temporary injunction ordering the Knesset Finance Committee chairman, the Knesset speaker, and the Finance Ministry to explain why the transfer of coalition funds to the Haredi community and to the Ministry of Settlement and National Missions should not be revoked.
Until then, the funds, $95.29 million allocated to the Education Ministry and $41 million to the Ministry of Settlement and National Missions, have been frozen.
The petition was filed, among others, by MK Naama Lazimi (Democrats).
The frozen transfers include $8.7 million for preventing yeshiva dropouts; 5.36 million for subsidized after-school programs in Haredi institutions; $5.06 million for Torah institutions in communities near Gaza; $5.06 million for after-school subsidies; and $370,000 for a financial aid fund for yeshiva students.
