Jerusalem, 29 August, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Dozens of Haredi protesters blocked the entrance to Jerusalem near Weizmann Boulevard and the Chords Bridge on Saturday, protesting buses operating on Shabbat on routes from northern Israel to the capital.
The protesters focused on public buses, delaying at least 13 buses entering the city, while most private vehicles were able to bypass the blockade. Israel Police deployed additional forces to the area to disperse the protesters and redirected traffic to alternative routes.
The blockade ended after the Jewish Sabbath, and traffic gradually returned to normal.
The protest was part of broader Haredi demonstrations across the country on Saturday, including attempts to block buses at the Meron junction, protests against public transportation in Safed and unauthorized road blockades in Bnei Brak.
