Jerusalem, 28 August, 2026 (TPS-IL) — The USS Theodore Roosevelt carrier strike group is scheduled to leave San Diego for the Middle East in the coming weeks for a deployment lasting more than seven months.
The group will operate under U.S. Central Command, supporting regional security operations amid the ongoing conflict involving the United States, Israel and Iran.
The Roosevelt will relieve the Japan-based USS George Washington, which recently arrived in the region after taking over from the long-deployed USS Abraham Lincoln.
The new strike group includes Carrier Air Wing 11 and several guided-missile escorts. Its mission is expected to include enforcing a naval blockade of Iranian ports and maintaining the ability to conduct carrier-based strikes in the Arabian Sea.
About 5,000 sailors will deploy aboard the Roosevelt.
