Jerusalem, 7 September, 2026 (TPS-IL) — The Israeli military said it redirected a strike in the Gaza Strip on Sunday after identifying civilians near an intended target, a Hamas terror operative.

According to the IDF (Israel Defense Forces), once the munition was released it could not be canceled, so it was diverted in real time to avoid civilian casualties.

The military described the incident as evidence of its efforts to distinguish between combatants and civilians and to take precautions to minimize harm during operations in Gaza.

The IDF has repeatedly said it works to limit civilian casualties amid its ongoing campaign against Hamas, though the conflict has drawn continued scrutiny from international observers over the scale of harm to Gaza’s population.
