Jerusalem, 8 September, 2026 (TPS-IL) — The 2025 PISA results, released Tuesday, reveal a dramatic collapse in Israeli students’ performance, with scores among the lowest since Israel began participating. The results mark a sharp decline from 2022 and place Israel well below OECD averages.

The OECD’s Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) evaluates the reading, mathematics and science skills of 15-year-olds worldwide. Israel’s reading score plunged 38 points to 436, one of the steepest declines globally and, experts say, equivalent to losing roughly two years of schooling. Mathematics fell 25 points to 433, while science dropped 23 points to 442.

Israel ranked near the bottom among 38 OECD countries: 31st in reading, down five places; 33rd in mathematics, down one; and 33rd in science, down two.
