In the week of honoring reserve soldiers, the National Insurance Institute is publishing data on male and female reserve soldiers from October 2023.
As of today, 57% of reserve soldiers are employees, 10% are self-employed, 10% are employees and self-employed, and 23% are neither employees nor self-employed.
More than half of reserve soldiers (54%) are aged 20-30. The median age of reserve soldiers is 29.
Of all reserve soldiers, 54% are single and 42% are married.
Among those aged 20-30, 82% are single and 22% are married.
About 3/4 of the soldiers, 78%, are men and about one-fifth, 22%, are women.

In the period from 10/2023 to the present, 27% of reserve soldiers performed between 150 and 300 reserve duty days cumulatively, 20% performed over 300 reserve duty days cumulatively (some served continuously and some served intermittently and accumulated these days throughout the period). 19% of reserve soldiers performed less than 30 reserve duty days in the entire period. Among male soldiers, about 28% served between 150 and 300 days, and among women – about 20%.
Among those aged 40-60, about 29% served 300 days or more. Among those aged 20-30, about 15% served 300 days or more.
29% of reserve soldiers are from the Central region, followed by the Tel Aviv and Northern districts.

37% of serving self-employed individuals are aged 20-30, 23% served 150-300 days, and 28% of self-employed individuals served over 300 days cumulatively.

The National Insurance Institute: The National Insurance Institute accompanies the male and female reserve soldiers and pays the reserve duty compensation monthly – something that has been done for the first time since the establishment of the state. Precisely in these days dedicated to honoring reserve soldiers, it is important for us to empower their actions – employees, self-employed, Central region, Jerusalem, North – who leave everything for the sake of maintaining Israel’s security. The National Insurance Institute has established a dedicated center for reserve soldiers to maximize their rights. There is no doubt that we must be consistent and vigilant about legislative changes for the benefit of the soldiers, and so we will continue to do until all reservists return home safely.”
