Jerusalem, 27 August, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Right-wing activist Elisha Yered is suing the Shin Bet for $50,000, accusing the agency of violating his privacy, defaming him, and causing him harm.
The lawsuit follows a separate case against journalist Ben Caspit, who was ordered to pay Yered $6,750 for publishing personal and criminal record information he received from the Shin Bet.
Yered’s lawsuit was filed in the Petah Tikva Magistrate’s Court by attorney Menashe Yado through the Honenu legal aid organization.
According to the lawsuit, Caspit told the court in June that he verified the information with the Shin Bet before publishing it. The agency allegedly confirmed claims that Yered had been held in administrative detention and was classified as a “checked individual.”
The lawsuit also alleges the Shin Bet gave Caspit details of 17 arrests, including dates and detention periods.
Yered is seeking $27,000 for defamation and $23,600 for invasion of privacy, plus legal costs.
