Jerusalem, 31 August, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Israel’s new school year opens Tuesday for schools and kindergartens nationwide, with more than 2 million students returning to their educational settings. As every year, the opening is accompanied by increased vehicle and pedestrian traffic near schools.

Police Commissioner Danny Levy approved the deployment of forces Ahead of the opening, instructing all districts and divisions to prepare for full alert to ensure students’ safe return to school.

Thousands of police officers, Border Police soldiers, volunteers and emergency squads will be deployed from early morning around educational institutions to secure students and parents, maintain public order, regulate traffic, and increase the community’s sense of security.

Police urged parents to choose safe routes to school, supervise children under 9 while crossing roads, obey crossing guards, drive carefully near schools, and check back seats for children before leaving vehicles.
