Jerusalem, 10 September, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Jerusalem District Police announced they have completed security preparations for the upcoming Tishrei holiday period, deploying thousands of officers, Border Police, and volunteers across the city and surrounding areas to secure holy sites and crowded venues, as tens of thousands already visit daily for Selichot prayers.

Under the plan led by District Commander Maj. Gen. Avshalom Peled, police are also intensifying enforcement against undocumented residency and those who transport, employ, or house undocumented individuals.

Due to expected crowds, private vehicles and buses will be barred from the Old City, with several nearby streets closed or restricted. Officials urged visitors to use public transportation and park-and-ride facilities at Mount Herzl, Nahal Tzofim, and Safra Square.
