Jerusalem, 6 September, 2026 (TPS-IL) — The Prime Minister’s Office, Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Construction and Housing, and Home Front Command announced Sunday that the government is expanding its private home protection program to frontline communities within 9 kilometers of the Lebanese border.
Eligible homeowners will receive grants of up to $60,400 to build a protected room, known as a MAMAD, in their homes.
The program will also add protection to about 11,000 apartments in high-density buildings, at a cost of about $1.4 billion. The work will be carried out by the Ministry of Construction and Housing and the Urban Renewal Authority.
The expanded investment will also complete protection work at more than 335 schools and other educational institutions, install 1,600 additional portable shelters, and renovate more than 600 public shelters.
The program has a total budget of about $2.24 billion.
