Jerusalem, 22 September, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Greece, Cyprus and Israel have selected the names for severe weather systems expected to affect the Eastern Mediterranean between October 2026 and September 2027. The list was jointly compiled by the three national meteorological services and will be used alphabetically.
Greece proposed Chabrias, Filippa, Ikaros, Laskarina, Odysseas, Roxani, Uranos and Xanthe. Cyprus selected Argos, Dorothea, Glafkos, Jason, Morfeas, Persefoni, Sisyfos, Vergina and Ypnos. Israel proposed Bar, Eitan, Hadar, Kedem, Nadia, Tamar and Wasim.
The three countries have cooperated on storm naming since 2021 through the Eastern Mediterranean Group. Names are assigned to weather systems expected to produce particularly severe conditions, helping authorities communicate warnings and alert the public. If a storm has already been named by another European meteorological group before reaching the region, its original name is retained.
