Jerusalem, 9 September, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Israel’s Electricity Authority reported that nearly 500,000 consumers, including about 450,000 households, have switched from the state-run Israel Electric Corporation to private suppliers since the market’s deregulation began. A new monthly record was set in August, with more than 20,000 customers switching in a single month.
The authority’s city-by-city index shows Bnei Brak leading among the largest cities, Modi’in topping large cities, Modi’in Illit leading medium-sized cities, and Be’er Ya’akov leading small cities, with switch rates in top-ranking cities ranging from 20% to 33%.
The shift reflects Israel’s ongoing effort to liberalize its electricity market and introduce consumer competition into a sector long dominated by the state utility.
