Jerusalem, 14 September, 2026 (TPS-IL) — More than 450,000 Israeli households and businesses have now moved from the state-owned Israel Electric Corporation (IEC) to private suppliers, according to data from Noga, which manages the national grid, marking a new milestone in the electricity market reform launched in July 2024.
The reform ended IEC’s decades-long monopoly, letting consumers—regardless of meter type—switch providers for discounts ranging from 5% to 20% off standard tariffs, with the steepest savings tied to smart-meter usage during off-peak hours. Growth has accelerated steadily since the reform’s launch, when switching numbers stood in the tens of thousands.
Energy Minister Eli Cohen has called the reform the largest economic shakeup since telecom liberalization, urging remaining customers to compare providers and switch. Officials aim to reach two million switched accounts as competition among the roughly eight licensed private suppliers intensifies.
