Jerusalem, 17 September, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Tel Aviv ranked 34th globally in Oxford Economics’ 2026 Global Cities Index, which evaluates major cities across Economics, Human Capital, Quality of Life, Environment, and Governance.
The city posted its strongest scores in Economics (16th) and Human Capital (31st), driven largely by its “Silicon Wadi” tech ecosystem spanning startups, defense, finance, and biotech. It ranked 156th in Quality of Life, 234th in Environment, and 401st in Governance, reflecting regional geopolitical instability.
Tel Aviv’s economy is valued at roughly $267 billion, with GDP per capita of $86,300 and a metropolitan population of 3.1 million. Oxford Economics cited the city’s large economic base, corporate-headquarters concentration, and low emissions intensity as key strengths, while flagging high housing costs as an ongoing challenge.
Tel Aviv is the highest-ranked city in the Middle East and North Africa and one of only three regional cities in the global top 50.
