Jerusalem, 28 August, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Israel has told the United States that a pilot program to have the Lebanese Army dismantle Hezbollah infrastructure in southern Lebanon has failed.

Israeli officials say the Lebanese Army receives specific locations of Hezbollah sites from the IDF but does not destroy them. In some cases, soldiers reportedly inspect tunnel entrances briefly and leave without entering or clearing them.

Lebanese forces also continue asking for more intelligence without taking serious action.

Israeli officials believe the Lebanese Army is unwilling to confront Hezbollah and is focusing on coordination rather than enforcement. Some observers say Lebanese forces also continue working with Hezbollah elements.

As a result, Israel is unlikely to approve additional pilot areas. Israeli officials warn that Lebanon’s failure to establish control over Hezbollah could increase the risk of renewed fighting.
