Jerusalem, 27 August, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Israeli authorities seized more than 1.2 tons of smuggled meat in northern Israel ahead of the upcoming High Holidays, the Ministry of Agriculture said Thursday.

In Tamra, a northern Is raeli-Arab city, police and ministry inspectors confiscated about 1,200 kilograms of frozen beef smuggled from the Palestinian Authority without permits and intended for sale.

In Kabul, also in northern Israel, inspectors found three sheep slaughtered illegally outside a slaughterhouse without veterinary inspection. The ministry warned that unsupervised meat can pose serious health risks due to inadequate inspection, refrigeration and hygiene.

All the confiscated meat was destroyed.

The High Holidays begin with Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, which starts at sundown on Sept. 11.
