Jerusalem, 15 September, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Southern Command chief Maj. Gen. Yaniv Asor led a Rosh Hashanah ceremony Tuesday attended by senior military officers and local authority heads from Israel’s western Negev region, marking nearly three years since the October 7, 2023, Hamas attack.

“The rupture was terrible; the disaster was immense,” Asor said, adding that Hamas “grew from within” Gaza’s population rather than as an outside force.

Asor said Israeli forces have sought to distinguish combatants from civilians throughout the war, stating: “In the face of false claims, we will present facts… when a failure is revealed among us, we will examine, learn, and correct.”

He described the approach as “a binding commitment in every order and every decision,” rather than a claim of perfection.
